Partha Chattopadhyay graduated in Zoology from the University of Calcutta. He moved to Switzerland in 1990, earned a diploma in Computer Applications, and worked as a teacher and software programmer for six years. From 1999 to 2022, he was head of the Information & Library at the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata. He also held the same position at Goethe-Institut Dhaka, Bangladesh for three years and at Seagull Arts & Media Resource Centre Kolkata for three years.
He translates literary and critical works from German into Bengali and from English into Bengali. He has participated in several translation projects, including "Poets Translating Poets" 2014-16, organized by the Goethe-Institut Mumbai, and has worked with contemporary German and Bengali poets as an interlinear translator.
