Anke Caroline Burger, born 1964 in Darmstadt, Germany, completed an M.A. in North American Studies and German Literature at the Free University Berlin and the University of Texas, Austin. She has been translating from English to German since 1993, specializing in contemporary literature from all anglophone corners of the world –– New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Bangla Desh, USA and Canada for leading German publishing houses (Suhrkamp, Insel, C. H. Beck, Hanser Berlin, Klett Cotta, Aufbau, Liebeskind etc). She was awarded the Christoph Martin Wieland Prize for Best Thriller Translation in 2003.
She has translated novels and short stories by Adam Johnson, Ottessa Moshfegh, Jon McGregor, Michelle de Kretser, Candice Fox, R. O. Kwon and many others. She lives and works in Berlin and Montreal.
