Canadian translator Darryl Sterk is a late bloomer who only started doing literary translation in 2007, at first for The Taipei Chinese PEN. Since then he’s enjoyed translating nearly a dozen novels and short story collections by Taiwanese writers. Notable translations are Wu Ming-Yi’s The Stolen Bicycle, which was longlisted for the Booker International in 2018, and Kevin Chen’s Ghost Town, which was longlisted for a Pen America Literary Award in 2023. In his spare time is an academic who teaches basic linguistics courses and researches Indigenous autoethnobotany.
