Diana Renker grew up in Germany and moved to Aotearoa New Zealand in 1983. After obtaining her MA in art history, she initially worked in the contemporary arts but after numerous requests for her to translate art texts, she decided to retrain as a translator working from German and French into English. She discovered her passion for subtitling in 2017 while working at a small translation agency as an in-house translator, revisor and project manager.
After further training and moving to freelancing, the bulk of Diana's work is now audio-visual translation, creating both dialogue lists and subtitles for independent film makers, state TV and international streaming networks. One of last year’s highlights was creating the English subtitles for the much-lauded Oscar-winner All Quiet on the Western Front.
